Big & Rich Coming to the Fair

Jackson County Fair Manager Sally Griffis wanted JTV viewers to be the first to know Big & Rich with Cowboy Troy are coming to the Fair Friday, August 11. Tickets go on sale Thursday morning, April 13 at 8 am. Tickets are priced at $36 and $39 plus a handling fee. For ticket locations call 517-788-4405, or buy online at www.starticketsplus.com.

The next Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours" is scheduled for Thursday, April 6 at 5pm. Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists, Inc. will be hosting at their newly expanded location at 2136 Robinson Road. Play networking Bingo for door prizes and enjoy snacks and drinks. Chamber members attend free; non-members are $10. Call the Chamber of Commerce at 517-782-8221 for reservations.

The Budweiser Jackson Jam returns to downtown Jackson this summer. Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Debbie Weid announced the popular concert series will be staged at the Riverwalk Amphitheatre and Bucky Harris Park on select summer evenings. A list of acts and dates will be posted here when the schedule has been finalized.

Local Activities Planned for Public Health Week

Alison Spencer and Rhonda Rudolph from the Jackson County Health Department outlined a long list of activities planned for Public Health Week. The first event is an open house on April 5 at the Lansing Avenue offices from 9 am to 10:30 am. A quiz, a listing of activities and free services can be found on the department's website and at the American Public Health Associaton website.

Attorney Tom Wilson announced his intentions to run for Family Court Judge. So far, Tom is the only officially declared candidate for the seat of Circuit Court Judge of Jackson County. A Jackson native, Tom has practiced law for 17 years.

Gerdia Crater stopped by to announce her brother, Bobby Rush will be returning to Jackson and The Michigan Theatre for a concert on April 22. Tickets available at the box office and D&D Records. Bobby will perform his classics and new music from his brand new album "Night Fishin". This will be a great show!

Jeff Daniels Returns to the Michigan Theatre

Michigan Theatre Interim CEO Thomas Gerdom announced the Michigan Theatre will again host Jeff Daniels and his popular Live and Unplugged Show. Watch this space for details on the May event. Jeff donates his time and talents as a fundraiser for the Michigan Theatre and The Purple Rose Theatre. Also on today's show, Board President Phil Curtis provided an update on programming and finances at the theatre. The board is embarking on a $300,000 fundraising drive to cover current and past expenses and future operational needs. The Michigan Theatre will continue the "Just for Kids" matinee series during Spring Break next week and will continue to book more first run movies and concerts.

Among the events previewed on the show today: The United Way Annual Dinner with Jim Brian and Bethany Timmons; The American Red Cross Everyday Heroes Awards with Sarah Ermatinger and the JCC Winter Film Series movie "Walk the Line". The Youngest Published Fiction Author in America, Reese Haller shared his story with Bart today. What a brainiac. Remember you saw him here first on JTV. Reese's books from the Fred the Mouse series can be purchased at his website. The fourth-grader from Bay City was in Jackson to meet the students from Dibble School during National Reading Month.

Rick Davies, President of the Michigan Shakespeare Festival invited high school students to enter the Shakespeare Monologue Contest. Two dates and locations are set for auditions. MichShakeFest.Org has details.

Bart's niece, Mary Margaret Warner from the third grade at Kitty Hawk Elementary sent us "Mailing May" for a visit. May traveled to the Sugaring and Shearing Festival with Adrien Sharp and was quite silent during an interview on the set. May is now in a FedEx envelope headed for North Carolina.

Sugaring and Shearing Festival

Among the weekend events previewed today on the show, the Ella Sharp Museum's Sugaring and Shearing Festival will likely be the most popular. This family event rivals the fall Harvest Festival for best attendance every year.
The Festival runs from 12 Noon to 4 pm Sunday at the Museum.

State Senator Mark Schauer reported on the legislation in the works regarding the scheduled sunset of the Small Business Tax. The Governor wants the legislature to come up with $2 Billion in cuts, taxes, savings, etc. to replace the SBT lost revenue.

The Senator voted with the majority on new graduation requirements for High School Seniors designed to keep kids in school through a successful graduation.

Jackson Attorney Diane Rappleye announced her intention to run for Probate Court Judge. So far the family and probate attorney is the only declared candidate for retiring Judge Susan Vandercook's bench. Diane has been an attorney for 13 years and works with her husband Bill in the firm of Rappleye & Rappleye, Attorneys at Law.

AT&T to Offer Video Services

AT&T Director of External Affairs, Frank Weathers unveiled his company's plans to offer video services in the state of Michigan. The company has begun offering IPTV in Texas and hopes to offer the service by the end of the year here. AT&T is asking the legislature to consider a state-wide franchise in order to offer competive products and pricing sooner.

The American Red Cross Online Auction ends Friday at 3pm. Cathy Lopez and Betty Gulliver brought some of the auction items to display. So far, nearly $10,000 in bids have been recorded.

Center Stage Jackson presents "Our Town". Director Mark Hisler told JTV viewers the Thornton Wilder classic has a few changes when it takes to the stage this weekend and next. Congressman Joe Schwarz to visit Iraq

7th District Representative Joe Schwarz is heading to Iraq. The congressman told Bart he is accompanying Senator John McCain on a 5 day tour. They will fly into Kuwait this Thursday and then on into Baghdad. He supports the president's statements on patience and will report back to JTV viewers on his return.

"Kids on Deck" is a new monthly feature of the show with Kathy Schmaltz. Kathy brought Matthew to the show in hopes his new "Big Brother" is watching. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jackson County is always needing mentors and you can call BBBS for application information at 517-784-7181.

It is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28 at 6pm at the Commonwealth Commerce Center. Guest speaker will be Mark Johnson, coach of the University of Wisconsin Girls Hockey team. They are in the "Frozen 4" this weekend. At the banquet, LC will be retiring the jersey of Lance Weissmuller. Hanover-Horton in State Quarter-Final

The Hanover-Horton Comets return to the state Class C Quarter-Final Tuesday
at Battle Creek's Kellogg Arena. The game against Berrien Springs will be covered by JTV Sports and will air this weekend. Today, highlights of the Regional Championship against Napoleon were featured.

JTV Viewers met the Sales Manager of Bob Frahm Chevrolet Pontiac Buick, Chuck Hiatt. Ron Douglass, Director of the Jackson Community Concert Band invited viewers to the Spring Concert Sunday, March 26 at JCC's Potter Center. Albion College Senior Brent Clore will be the featured soloist as the winner of the Young Artist Competition. Armory Arts Project Update

Armory Arts Project Director Neeta Delaney reported today all the real estate and tax issues are settled on the 35 acre Armory Arts development. Groundbreaking will begin this summer on Phase 1, which includes housing units in a variety of sizes and configurations. The National Guard is ahead of schedule on their planned move to their new facility north of Jackson.
